The module for grades 6 to 8 includes six units and a total of 24 diverse lessons emphasizing hands-on classroom-based activities. At these grade levels, POWERING OUR FUTURE places a strong emphasis on science content and understanding science as a process. Mathematics skills are also emphasized in a number of lessons, and any correlations with academic standards in language arts and other school subjects are noted for teacher reference as well.
The majority of lessons are classroom-based participatory activities. A few lessons utilize a technology component, which varies from interactive computer-based learning experiences to online student research. Background information as well as learning objectives and assessment ideas are provided for every lesson.
